IE7 HTML Source Selection

November 23rd, 2006 | Wahyudi

I found the “View Selection Source” from Firefox very usefull. Particularly if you are a web developer and need to see how a certain part of the page was created such as JavaScript, CSS. This feature allows you to see the HTML source of the part that is highlighted. With right click you will have […]

Warning Sign

October 6th, 2006 | Wahyudi

I found the warning sign next to the login field which is probably the most important element on that page very inappropriate. Everytime a user lands on that page she will think that something wrong with the page or with the login field. The first warning sign is actually welcoming the users but it is […]

Scroller Is for Scrolling

August 16th, 2006 | Wahyudi

Have you ever used Google Maps with a mouse that has a scroller on it? The first time I notice that you can zoom in and out the maps using the scroller was so confusing. Even after that I still not get use to it. I think from the usability point of view, it is […]

Users Come First

February 27th, 2006 | Wahyudi

I found this site through Delicious. I did not read the articles there yet but what really bothers me is instead of finding the most important site element from the user prespective - which is navigaton - on the most user friendliest place - which is either on the top or left side -, i found “ads by Gooooooogle”. Many people integrate Google Adwords on their web sites, but I think you should not trick you visitor by placing it on the left side or on the top to camouflage it as your main navigation.

TV Goes Web

February 16th, 2006 | Wahyudi

CNN International redesigned their appearance from a heavy, overload graphic and content to a simple more clear screen look. Here are some screenshots. Besides the look there are some other major changes, most obvious will be the removal of the news ticker. Instead of it, there will be a full short text of a story at a time. I think this is good since news ticker really distracts me from other textual information.

Accessibility Please

Interesting news about a student who sues Target due to the lacks of the accessibility of their web site. Read the news.

As a web designer oder developer you must have known that you can put some style into links such as color, remove the underline and creating interactivity that at the early time of web development mostly done by JavaScript such as switching the […]

Don’t miss this site

January 1st, 2006 | Wahyudi

This is really a cool flash site. One of an example for the proper use of flash video and i think this is much much better than using artificial avatar. By the way the web site has a great content for many kind of cocktails. So don’t miss this site, let’s go to the bar.

Personal Experiment: Web Standards Conversion - Siemens.com

September 28th, 2005 | Wahyudi

I’ve just finished rebuilding the home site of siemens.com using the Web Standards approach. In this case Web Standards signifies building a web site with a total separation of content and presentation, using XHTML to structuring the content and CSS to format the content. Web Standards also means the use of semantic structure in the web document, which can be done by surrounding the content with an appropriate mark up like H1, P, list instead of meaningless mark up like table-tr-td. It also means to lay out the site correctly, as one should already know that the table exists in order to structure the content tabularly- not to lay out the whole site.

WIKI at IT/MIS Department

September 25th, 2005 | Wahyudi

I’m in the process of closing my time at Siemens Corp. this week. It is a kind of mandatory for everyone specially if you are a developer to make a documentation of what you have developed. So my decission to use a WIKI for documenting my work was pretty clear. The reason is i believe that a WIKI can do more than a Microsoft Word document. It is a better colaboration tool than a static Microsoft Word document. You also don’t have to pass around per email to other people if they need it. I also think that WIKI is a better colaboration tool than the one where you only can upload or download your documentation online. So this is a good start for the department. To visit the wiki page use this link
(copy the address if it does not work).
