Who Can Read This?

This is my first post in the category Watch Co.Id. A catecory dedicated to watch the web design and development issue in Indonesian websites. I want to start with the news page of SCTV “Liputan 6″ particulary with the headline that I found today. What is wrong with this article? A user on a website is attracted more by the an image rather than paragraphs of text. So the first thing that a user would do is to focus on the image that displayed on the top of the article. But can you really read that? As usual it is an GIF animation (they are still crazy about animated GIF).

I would say: Don’t use animated element without user control panel (stop, skip, play, next, previous) if your purpose is to show your user the important part of your content.  Web user scan a page instead of  read  thoroughly.
