Have you ever used Google Maps with a mouse that has a scroller on it? The first time I notice that you can zoom in and out the maps using the scroller was so confusing. Even after that I still not get use to it. I think from the usability point of view, it is not a good idea to introduce something that away to0 far from the basic functionality that we already knew: mouse scroller helps you to scroll the page and scroller on the screen used to zoom in or out the maps (used on Google Maps, Yahoo! Maps), picture (used in iPhoto). I consider my self as a very web-savvy person, but still until now I still zoom the maps in and out accidentally using my mouse scroller and it is a pain.
