On wednesday may 25th Liverpool FC will be facing AC Miland in the final match of Champions Cup this year in Istanbul. For me it is like memory back to my childhood in Jakarta, Indonesia. When i was about 10 years old i started to love Liverpool FC. Back at that time Liverpool FC was a kind of an unbeatable team in England and Europe. They have player like Ian Rush, John Barnes, Peter Beardsley, Bruce Grobbelaar, Jan Molby. From those players even until now, John Barnes is for me the best player ever. He has all what a soccer player needs: ball control, a great dribbler, good defensive player, speed, power and a leader on the field.
Since the era of Barnes, Rush, Beardsley and since i moved to Germany in 1994 i was kind of losing contact with Liverpool FC, maybe because the german media (tv, news paper) don’t have good coverage of the Premiere League. In my home country Indonesia, we have Premiere League every weekend and have a live coverage of FA Cup. During that times i also decided to choose one german team so that i can follow the Bundeslige with passion and emotion. It is pretty obvious that i choose FC Bayern Munich as my team, that is the one that i’m really familar with - back in my childhood time i had a poster of great players with Karl Heinz Rummenige inside that, besides Liverpool FC poster -, so the name FC Bayern Munich was very familiar to me.
AC Milan will be very tough for Liverpool, they are very strong in the defense with experienced players like Maldini, Cafu, Staam and Milan has very dangerous offensive players such as Shevchenko, Tommason, Inzagi, Crespo, look at this four players, they all world best players and one or two of them will have to take a place on the bench, what a waste. Especially Shevchenko, he can make a score in almost any kind of situation, he is a kind of player who can decide the match by his self.
I was very upset when Liverpool let Owen go to Madrid mostly only to be a subtitution. Basically i’m not really happy with the transfer politic made at Liverpool FC in the last couple years, i mean how can a club that has a tradition of being number one in 70’s, 80’s and early 90’s could not compete for the first position in the Premiere League and keep the champion tradition alive. Well my heart is still on merseyside, so i hope that Liverpool will win the match and one of my childhood dream - to see Liverpool win the Champions Cup - will come true.
